Anemone apennina double blue

Found in an old garden in Ireland, so I’m not sure of the cultivar, if named. It changes colour slightly as it opens, from having a paler centre to all blue at maturity. Very slow to multiply.

£10

SOLD OUT

Anemone apennina double blue
Anemone nemorosa Explosion An amazing variety found in Norway after the Chernobyl disaster. The double flowers are very variable from season to season and flower to flower on the same plant. Flowers usually contain a mixture of white, green and crimson.

Anemone nemorosa Explosion

Anemone nemorosa Flash

A sport of 'Virescens' found in my garden. The usually plain green petaloids are splashed or wholly white, usually with deep blue bases. I would have said this was a cross between Virescens and Blue Eyes, but the former is completely sterile.

Anemone nemorosa Salt 'n 'Pepper
Estonian double A. ranunculoides

Found by Taavi Tuulik after the Chernobyl disaster, these are mutated forms of the normally single golden wood anemone. Each clone has been separately named. Some are at first glance similar (but not more so than a lot of snowdrops!), but they have been kept separate as they are genetically distinct and although they may only have slight differences visually, they may turn out to vary in vigour/ disease resistance etc. They are all easy, and hardy outside here.

I have been unable to get seeds off any of the clones, even those that appear to have stamens, so they are probably mostly sterile.

The ones below are those I have been able to increase sufficiently to be able to spare some, as they are all recent introductions.

As far as I know, I am the only nursery offering these plants in the UK, and only one other nursery in Latvia is offering them.

In the descriptions, for ease of understanding (and typing) I will use 'petal' for the coloured parts of the flowers, even though they are not, botanically speaking, true petals.
